Jmblya 2016 provides delicious mix of artists

Jake Gray, Reporter/Podcast Personality

Friday the 13th has historically gone down as cursed day, a day where something is sure to go wrong. However, I have a feeling that Friday, May 13 will be a little bit different. Why is that? Music superstars Post Malone, Kevin Gates, Rae Sremmurd, and Future will be headlining one of Dallas’ biggest music festivals, Jmblya, that day and night. Anticipation is building for this show largely due to what is considered the greatest lineup in Jmblya history. Let’s take a look at the four main artists headlining the festival.

Post Malone

Post Malone is coming home. He was raised in Dallas where his father was an assistant for the Dallas Cowboys. Post graduated from Grapevine High School and moved to Los Angeles  shortly after graduation. Performing a big show in his hometown will bring out the best of Post Malone. He’ll have plenty of friends in the crowd and will bring a lot of energy to the show. He will be one of the first performers in the lineup. However, what hurts Post’s performance is he really is a one-hit wonder. His huge hit “White Iverson” will surely get the crowd going, however, not many people will know a single other song he sings, unless it’s a cover of another song.

Kevin Gates

Kevin Gates probably performs with the most passion out of any of these artists. His passion is obvious and it carries out into the crowd. He will bring a lot of energy to Jmblya early on as he is also early in the lineup. When “I Don’t Get Tired” starts, you will hear the crowd erupt as this song is one of his best. It really is a song that will get the crowd going. But when he performs “2 Phones,” Jmblya will lose it. “2 Phones” is Gates’ best song.

Rae Sremmurd

Rae Sremmurd and Future are the two main performers for this festival. Rae Sremmurd is a group that is better live, something rare in music today. Their album “ShremmLife” is one of the most popular hip-hop albums released in the past few years. Every song on that album is one that you can blare and vibe to. “No Flex Zone”, “Throw Sum Mo”, “Come Get Her”, “No Type”, “Up Like Trump”, “My X”, “Unlock The Swag”, “This Could Be Us”, each and every one of those songs is incredible. Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi are incredible in the studio, but their chemistry on stage is unparalleled. The energy they will bring to the show will be a huge.

Future

This brings us to the last artist performing, Future. Future is one of the hottest names in hip-hop right now and Jmblya landing him was huge. Future has songs that everyone will know. His beats will electrify Jmblya at night. “March Madness”, “Low Life”, “Jumpman”, “Where Ya At”, “Big Rings”, “Commas”, “Scholarships.” Right now, he is in the upper echelon of the rap game. With recent collaborations with artists The Weeknd and Drake, people are wondering if Future will bring either of them out. At this point, nothing can be confirmed, but neither Drake or The Weeknd are scheduled to perform. Future will end Jmblya with a bang and have the entire crowd into the show.
